Maroon Bells – Day 5
Our fifth day in Colorado was spent in Aspen and nearby Maroon Bells. It was 26 degrees at 9:00 AM and the snow from the previous night made for some interesting photo opportunities. However, the mountains were completley hidden by low clouds so the classic Maroon Bells shot of the the mountains reflecting in the lake was not there.
Somewhere I got the idea that snow can fool the auto white balance on many DSLRs, causing whites to look grey. Therefore I used a patch of snow to set a custom white balance. It will be intereting to view these images on a calibrated monitor – however, the custom WB seems to have worked fairly well as the snow looks white on the laptop monitor I am using while traveling. Both of these shots were taken with the Pentax K7 with smc PENTAX-DA* 50-135mm F2.8 ED:

95mm 1/320s f3.5 iso 200 (handheld)

70mm 1/200s f3.5 iso100
This will be my last post from the road in Colorado. Tomorrow we drive to Denver to catch our plane back home. As soon as I get a chance to do some much needed post processing, I’ll pose a complete gallery. I would really appreciate your comments and constructive criticism. Thanks in advance.
