About Me

Frank with Pentax smc A*600mm f/5.6

My name is Frank Comisar. I am an avid nature photographer.  My photography interests are varied and range from landscapes to wildlife.  Some of my more recent photo shoots include volcanoes of Costa Rica, grizzly bears in Alaska’s Katmai National Park, birds of the Florida Everglades, desert landscapes of Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park in southern Utah, and the spring migration of sandhill cranes through central Nebraksa.

I find wildlife photography extremely gratifying.  Few things are more satisfying than capturing a well executed image of a critter in their natural habitat.   At the same time it can be very frustrating as the critters are not always interested in posing while I fine tune the camera settings and compose the scene.  That’s when I switch to landscapes.  It is much easier to sneak up on a tree or a mountain than a grizzly bear.

When discussing photography, the conversation invariably includes discussion about equipment.  I use Pentax gear exclusively.  I’ve been shooting with Pentax since 1979.  Pentax provides me all the tools I need at a very reasonable cost.  I love a tack sharp image and in my opinion, Pentax makes some of the finest lenses ever made by any company (e.g. FA31mm and FA43mm), especially if you are inclinded to use prime lenses.   And although they aren’t cheap, my LBA (lens buying addiction) would be a much more expensive afffliction if I used Nikon or Canon.
