This is a special workshop! Our Florida bird photography workshop is all about birds-in-flight (BIF) and chicks in the nest. Hone your bird photography skills with Frank Comisar, an award winning photographer and Scenic Aperture’s founder. Join us on the west coast of Florida to photograph nesting egrets, herons, spoonbills, pelicans, wood storks, reddish egrets, burrowing owls and more. Our boat based shoots will be from the deck of a 24’ Seapro Open Fisherman boat under the command of a U.S. Coast Guard certified captain. This is a very small, stable, and quiet boat which allows a close approach without disturbing the birds. Therefore this workshop is limited to only four participants. Sign up now before it’s too late!
April is nesting season on the West coast of Florida and there is no better place for bird photography than the mangrove island rookeries in Sarasota Bay and the Braden River. We will have four photo shoots at these rookeries which offer the serious wildlife photographer an unparalleled opportunity. We will photograph colonies of nesting Roseate Spoonbills, Great Blue Herons, Great Egrets, Snowy Egrets, Wood Storks and many more, all decked out in breeding plumage at the peak of nesting season; many will likely have chicks in the nest.
In addition, we will have two land-based photo shoots; one at Fort De Soto Park Bird Sanctuary where we expect to shoot Reddish egrets, American Oystercatchers, Wilson’s Plovers and seabirds such as Black Skimmers and Least Terns. The second land based shoot will be in Cape Coral where we will shoot fascinating burrowing owls, many with chicks.
This workshop is for the serious wildlife photographer. During this workshop you will create beautiful photographs of numerous species and experience diverse environments including mangrove rookeries, tidal pools, beaches, and inland areas.
In the event of inclement weather, we will substitute nearby land-based locations for boat shoots.
